Pine Honey — Pure Greek Raw Pine Honey

Our Pine Honey is a premium honeydew honey produced by bees in the ancient pine forests of Greece. Unlike conventional flower honeys, pine honey is not made from flower nectar. Instead, bees collect the rich secretions of an insect called Marchalina hellenica, which lives on the bark of Greek pine trees. The result is a honey like no other: dark, complex, low in sweetness, and exceptionally rich in minerals.
It is widely considered one of Greece's finest wild honeys and once you've tasted it, you'll understand why it has been celebrated for generations.
Pine honey defies expectations. Its colour ranges from amber to deep mahogany. Its flavour is rich and resinous, with earthy, woody undertones and a subtle, almost caramel-like sweetness that is far less pronounced than floral honeys. It has a thick, silky texture and a mineral depth that is unique in the world of natural honey.
Because of its lower fructose content, pine honey is also one of the least sweet honeys available making it an excellent choice for those who find conventional honey too sugary, and an outstanding pairing for savoury foods, aged cheeses, and bold flavours.
Rich in Minerals, Exceptionally Pure
Pine honey is naturally high in minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron a reflection of the mineral-rich environment in which it is produced. It also has a lower glycaemic impact than most flower honeys and a naturally high antioxidant content. Minimally processed and free from additives, our Pine Honey delivers everything that makes Greek forest honey so extraordinary.

Frequently Asked Question

What is pine honey and how is it made?
Pine honey is a type of honeydew honey produced when bees collect the sweet secretions of a scale insect (Marchalina hellenica) found on the bark of Greek Pinus brutia pine trees, rather than collecting nectar from flowers. This process gives pine honey its distinctively dark colour, complex flavour, and mineral-rich profile.
Does pine honey taste sweet?
Pine honey is notably less sweet than conventional flower or wildflower honeys due to its lower fructose content. It has a rich, complex, slightly resinous flavour with earthy and woody undertones more bold than sugary, which makes it ideal for those who prefer a less sweet honey experience.
What foods pair well with pine honey?
Pine honey's complex, less sweet profile makes it an exceptional pairing for aged and sharp cheeses, charcuterie, roasted meats, dark bread, and walnuts. It also works beautifully in savoury marinades and glazes, and as a natural sweetener in herbal teas and coffee.
Is pine honey good for you?
Pine honey is naturally high in minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron, and has a strong antioxidant profile. Its lower glycaemic index compared to most floral honeys makes it a popular choice for those monitoring their sugar intake who still want to enjoy natural honey.
Is Greek pine honey sustainably sourced?
Yes. The production of Greek pine honey is deeply intertwined with the natural ecosystem of the Greek pine forest. The bees, the Marchalina hellenica insects, and the pine trees exist in a symbiotic relationship, and the honey is harvested in a way that supports rather than disrupts this natural balance.
